Affonso & Shears

a covers duo for your event

Welcome

Affonso & Shears are a duo who perform covers for weddings, events and functions. They consist of Megan Affonso on the 'cello and vocals, and Daniel Shears on guitars and vocals.

They perform a wide range of songs spanning different genres, from The Kinks to Radiohead, from The Beatles to Britney Spears, from Elton John to ABBA!

Affonso and Shears can class up any song you want, and tone down upbeat songs for a more intimate or low-key setting; or, if you prefer something more lively, you can listen to them perform songs against a rhythmic folk/rock setting - requests are more than welcome, and we will always tailor our set to suit your needs.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions and we will get back to you as soon as possible!

About Us

Coming from different musical backgrounds, Megan Affonso and Daniel Shears bring together their classical training and folk/rock roots to produce a unique combination of modern day music with lyrical overtones. Featuring 'cello, a range of guitars and vocals, Affonso & Shears are able to breathe new life into songs with which we are all familiar. The pair met in 2012, when Megan became the ‘cellist in “Dan Shears & The Velveteen Orkestra”, a folk noir act created by Shears.

Daniel Shears

Writing original songs and music that focus on love, heartache and fantasy against the backdrop of mystical and carnivalesque imagery, Dan’s wide vocal range and poetic quality secured him a tour supporting Charlene Soraia. His band, which makes use of orchestral instruments in a more contemporary and less formal context, has earned success after the release of two EPs, and are currently in the process of recording an album, to be released later in the year.

Megan Affonso

Megan was born to two concert pianists, and her musical upbringing was something of a certainty from an early age. Taking up the piano from the age of three, and then picking up the ‘cello at the age of nine, she was awarded with music scholarships that funded her classical training. She was offered a place for two years in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, where she was given the opportunity to perform for The Queen. Continuing her musical development through her later years, Megan is an accomplished 'cellist, pianist and singer, who teaches music when not performing.

Testimonials

“These guys played for an anniversary event that I held a couple of weeks ago, and were really great - very versatile and both of them clearly know what they're doing. We originally asked them to play one set, but our friends wanted more and they happily obliged. Thanks so much for making our event fun yet classy - you guys really were superb.” – Keith McKibbon, Beckenham.

“I heard Megan and Dan whilst out with friends, I was really impressed with their songs and how beautifully their voices harmonised and I asked them to play an event for me. Since then they have been brilliant playing both large and intimate events and are always a pleasure to deal with right through the process from booking until after they play talking to the audience. They really are a joy to have at any event and I can't recommend them highly enough.” – Elaine McGinty, Woking.

“You sound so incredibly awesome together, and make such beautiful, awe inspiring music. I think people like you and Dan Shears are truly talented and it's obvious you both work very hard at creating such beautiful music - and thus deserve to be recognised for it :) Creative artists such as you two, is what brings colour to the world, adding a soundtrack to our lives :)” – Lala Khalique, London.

“The music was beautiful; just right for the ceremony of our special day and added a lovely personal touch!” – Seonaid Johnston, Barnes.

“I initially saw these guys perform at a music venue with a host of other bands. These guys stood out by a mile, both with amazingly diverse vocals and an eclectic range of instruments. Since then I've begun working with these guys on numerous projects, using their talents at live shows and on produced filmed pieces. I'll be getting these guys back again to perform at a function to celebrate the opening of my next project.” – Luke Kaile, Croydon.

“Dan's voice is incredible, with a dynamic control rarely heard. He plays guitar excellently with phrasing and style adding to excellent melody lines. By himself he is an event, with the wonderful Megan weaving an extra magic into the tapestry with Cello and harmonies there's little to beat an evening in their company.” – Steve Broe, London.
